Laurie Shapiro

Laurie Shapiro is a native Phoenician. She graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in Journalism and obtained an MBA from Arizona State University. She began her professional career as a sales associate for AT&T and later worked as a residential real estate agent for 25 years.

Laurie was married to Gary Shapiro for more than 31 years until he passed in 2014. Their two children are David and Dorie Shapiro, now grown. Gary’s father, Don began the practice now known as Optical Expressions in 1960. Once Gary joined his dad’s practice in 1979, they expanded to open two additional locations in Hilton Village and later the Esplanade.

Due to Erika Wilken’s and Laurie’s conviction to continue the legacy created by Don and Gary Shapiro, Optical Expressions PLLC was created. They seek to carry on the vision of the Shapiros…to create lifelong relationships with the patients that the practice serves. Although they co-manage the practice, Laurie serves as the office administrator and supervises the accounting functions and in-house human resources.

Laurie has many outside interests. She loves to cook and collect wine. She still snow-skis. And now that David (and wife, Elizabeth) have children, she relishes her time as “Grandma”.
